STUDENTS WILL INDEPENDENTLY TACKLE THE QUESTIONS, AFTERWHICH THE TUTOR WILL DO HIS / HER DETAILED EXPLAINATION CITING :-

 

* WHAT METHOD IS REQUIRED TO SOLVE SUCH SUMS.
IS IT MODEL DRAWING, USING A DIAGRAM, BEFORE & AFTER CONCEPT, GUESS & CHECK?

* TAKING NOTE OF KEYWORD /KEY PHRASES. BREAK THE SENTENCES INTO PHRASES.

* THINKING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT BOX. MAKE THE NUMBER SMALLER. USE SUPPOSITION AND RESTATE THE SUMS IN ANOTHER WAY.

* GATHER ALL POSSIBLE INFORMATION AND CLUES AND LIST THEM INTO A DIAGRAM OR A DETAILED GRAPHIC.

* CHECKING OF WORK I.E CALCULATIONS AND STEPS.

"TACKLING COMPREHENSION TIPS"

• Read the passage once through to get a basic idea of what it is about.

• Read it again, this time collecting important information such as the 4W'S and any crucial stats, figures and sequence of story. Do not be distracted by challenging words. Try to intelligently guess its meaning by looking for clues.

• Go through the questions. Underline key words and key ph...rases. Be very sure of what the question demands of you.

• Focus on the portion of the passage which is related to each question. Highlight the part where you can spot the answers. Be mindful of infering questions where the answers require more of logical thinking.

• If you are not sure of the question come back to it later.

• Arrange your answers clearly.

• Avoid copying out whole sentence from the passage.

• Check for grammar / language, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure errors.

English Composition writing competition

Please be informed that The Learning Verve Knowledge Hub will be having an English Composition writing competition opened to Pri 4 - Pri 6 students.

The composition will be based on a picture, a given title or continous writing.  Minimum number of words is 170 words.

Marking scheme is based on :-

1. Content and Idea.
2. Language & Grammar.
3. Story flow and format.

All entry must be sent through thelearningverve@gmail.com in pdf or words format. Please indicate your name, age, level and school you are in.

The first English Composition writing competition will commence on Saturday 2 August 2014. The closing date will be on Saturday 16 August 2014.

The first prize will receive a popular voucher and an assessment book.
